Hi Ben,

Can i firstly say that i like your use of colours and your site looks great!

I see there is a :nbsp at the begining of your page title, i don't know if this was done on purpose or not but you don't need it (just a little thing!!!).

You may want to consider moving your to an external stylesheet, in order to give you more control over the full site, which means that any changes that need to be made to the full site need only be made to the one stylesheet.
Also you may want to think about using css for your layouts instead of tables.

I am in the process of converting my site to css layouts and its not too difficult.

Awesome job with the website, and I do like the color scheme.

My only two suggestions:

1. Make the page background a fixed background.

2. Take off that 5 pixel pink stroke effect around the links and logo text and just see if you can get away with just having the white text there. If it contrasts too much with the dark background then re-apply a stroke, but make it about 1 to 2 pixels and make it a light gray, perhaps #D3D3D3 or #B3B3B3, something like that.

Cheers,

me

Hello Ben,

Great site layout, clean and easy to navigate. I think the design is simplistic but effective, the graphics are sharp and allow for quick load times while maintaining a professional look. The navigation makes exploring the site easy. Not more to critique, keep up the good work!

Good job and nice profile too!

I like your style, the use of rounded corners and im totally digging your use of color. The sites also do not look like your standard "box" design. good work

Hey Guys, thanks so much for the feedback. Very appreciated.

Would anyone be able to lead me to somewhere where I can learn how to transition over to using CSS for my layouts instead of just Tables?

Thanks again!

http://meyerweb.com/ (THE CSS guru himself).

That's an excellent place to start. You WILL become to hate tables for presentation there...hate, hate, hate ...as divs are your friend. Wink

It'll also help you with removing this...

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">'

to this...

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN">'

Which is a sign of a professional web designer now.

Once you get a hang of it, you'll never go back. Everything is cleaner, and one (or 2, if you wish for an IE specific) stylesheet to fix everything with.

great site! I would suggest simplifying the layout//there's a lot going on visually on the home page and you might want to move some of this content to other pages

at the bottom, make sure that your email address is clickable (insert it as a layer with , not just an image

I don't really like the colors. They are kinda depressing. Please change the colors. It still has to be fixed.

I will first say how much I liked the interaction with the mouse over for the other websites. I will also tell you that you have a real good color scheme. I would have to say the only real thing I saw that I would change myself would be the size of the site the length I mean it seems just a bit short and cut off.

Design wise sweet very nice looking site, but coding wise the are really bad, loads of javascript which I hate to se being used unless absolutly necisary which it was not, also when you do use javascript it should be kept in a seperate javascript file and called for rather than having it in with your HTML/XHTML file, it uses tables for layout which is a big no no.

I agree the design from an aesthetic standpoint looks great.

You should give yourself a better site map, the graphical one is good but the important one is the on that shows up at the bottom of the page, it is an SEO trick to link your whole site to every page on it, so by doing a site map that appears on every page you are linking to every page on your site on every page.

very clean and easy to navigate, but there is something i don't like about the wayt the portfolio is presented. it looks to much like news headlines or blog entries. would it be possible to just have one line for each item and have them appear as images or bullets?

Nice and clean, easy navigation. Although you only have 4 pages to navigate, so navigation would be pretty hard to botch. Gradient/glow happy, although thats okay in this web 2.0 age Smiling

All in all, pretty good. I like.

Hi,

I like the structure of the website. Everything is nicely organized and displayed. It was easy to navigate from page to page using the top menu. I really like the colour scheme that you chose for the website. Smiling

The only issue that confused me at first was the main purpose of the website. I thought at first that your site was promoting other websites. The website seems a little bit compact in terms of width size. Perhaps you can increase the width of your website and decrease the size of the left and right margin space.

I like the layout and the colors, but I think the shiney technique is a little overrated. Great job though.

First impression is a clean and relaxing website, the color scheme is soothing and this makes your visitors comfortable which means they will be more inclined to stay and look around.

The simplicity also is beneficial as it tells your visitors "this is what the site is about, Ben's portfolio"

I would suggest adding tn screenshots (similar to your homepage) of your work to your portfolio page as clickable graphics in addition to the hyperlink. The site is very graphic and the addition of small screenshots would give the visitor a preview.

If I were a client looking for a web designer, I would have a favorable impression of our work

First thing is first.I am appreciating your functioning style.Content in the main page also bulk.I am not objectioning for that. Most of the users like this layout.Colors which used while designing too simple and won't effect to eyes.good job.

I like most of your designs, nice, clean, and just great looking overall. One thing I noticed on just a couple of your designs is that some of the images are just to big and need to be smaller, other then that, I like your style.

I think you have just about reached the sites potential. I have 3 suggestions that I think will help a lot. First, reduce the thickness of your borders. Second, in your blending options, change the shadow angle to 0 and reduce the opacity. And third, your gradients are not looking so good, see if you cant make them look smoother.

Hello everyone, it's me, the original poster checking in.

First of all, thanks everyone for the feedback.

Next, I am working on a slight redesign on my website (current site is the old one), http://www.benjisa.com

See the DRAFT at: http://www.benjisa.com/draft/ (Please only view the 1st page and critique general design...content and code optimization is still in the works)

Would you please compare that draft with my current site, what do you like better/worse, and general poinst for improvement in the site.

Also, the big white box in middle of draft site will be animation/flash.

Thanks all!

I prefer the DRAFT site, over the original. While I can see the draft is incomplete with dead links, and such. It is visually more appealing, and offers a more "impressive" look.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm hoping it's better, but I've stared at these sites for so long I need fresh sets of eyeballs.

You have a nice site keep it cool looking would be better if you make the content white in background.

How do I get my site reviewed here?
I can't see "Website Critique Area" as an option when trying to post?
Any ideas?

Nice looking. But, looking at your latest version, I do observe:

- Design falls apart on +1 increase in text size in Safari
- font-size of 13px is way smaller than the default 20px on my 120 DPI laptop
- mis-matched background colors makes some text invisible if a background image does not download
- xml statement above the DOCTYPE puts IE 6 in quirks mode

Keep it up - you are getting there.

I really like the site and think the colours on it work really well. It is really straight forward to work my way around. Good Job
