Mortgage Calculator Website

I don't want to sound mean, but I don't think a simple swap of colors is going to do this website a lot of good. I think you either need to find a better "template," look into finding someone to put a design together for you, or try to simplify it yourself with a good WYSIWYG editor that might get something looking better for you. I would say that at this point you need a working logo, some better-looking and functioning navigation, and some stand-out content. Mainly by that I mean some work on the text you have displayed: some grammatical errors and a lot of repetition between the text under the calculator, in the sidebar, and on the "How it works" page.

I feel like the heading colour could do to be a solid color or pattern background as I dont think the text is too readable.

After a calculation the site seems to give you too much information. This could be made available on request by a separate link and saves the first results page having a massive scroll.

I have to say I like it. It's simple, to the point. What are you trying to acheive with this site? If it's only to offer FREE help to people, then you have succeded. If your trying to earn an income from your site I feel you need some more content. The look (it was blue when I saw it) was calming and nice.

I second that and couldn't agree more.

The text isn't really all that easily readable. It is but up to an extent, so it's too small in reality. Remember if you can read small text it doesn't mean all your visitors can as some of them might be older people (reading disabilities). Specifically speaking about the font-sizes to the left-and-right panels.

Don't just use a varying difference of blue, use some other colours (complimentary colours) to spice it up and make it look more attractive. Search google on complimentary colours and do some research about what different colours can do to a person's emotions (feelings) and the functionality of a site.

I'll second what others have said here about the colours and font size. Both need work, blue is a bit of a design crime in my opinion: everyone defaults to it when they're not sure what colour to use. Not only that but it's boring, cold and impersonal. Definitely increase the font size too.

Also look into using grids for design, there's a lot of box-itis due to a lack of coherence in the design. Lines are rarely needed to separate design elements, try using white space, colours, and changes in type instead. As an example of inconsistency: the boxes on either side of the main content, are completely different, particularly their borders and backgrounds.

The type is similarly inconsistent across the page, try limiting yourself to just two distinct colours and make the type colour the same in the same section.

The site needs a fair amount of work. I'll try and explain what I think needs to be changed by quoting certain areas on the page. In addition I'll focus on the colors as you've mentioned thats one of your concerns.

"Figure out monthly payments of a home mortgage loan"

The color #99CCFF, for my monitor at least is hard to see and I'd recommend a darker blue. The border using #99CCFF should be darker as well.

"If the down payment is less than 20%, this calculatorfactor..."

and

"You can use this mortgage calculator to figure..."

This color (#777777) is too bright and hard to read. I myself can read it but I'm sure some older folks might have trouble.

Lastly for the Average Mortgage Rate table I'd make the border black and collapse the current border using CSS.
