Sidulus is my blog and personal site. What you see here is the result of a(nother) major redesign of the website... Most of the design phase is complete; I just have to fix the xhtml so it'll validate and I'll post photos on Monday.

It's cute, I like the header. You know the main issues already, it displays fine and reminds me vaguely of simple bits.
I'm okay within the site, but when I look at the address bar, I get really confused. Is there any way to nail down your own domain name? http://hhg.firewebx.com/comic/ your directory (? is it yours) is wide open. Moving backwards seems to be that it's all yours, perhaps an .htaccess file to redirect all hits to the other directories to the current blog?

Looks great! Nice lively and bright colours. Love the rollover effects in the navigation.

I kinda prefered the old one, but the new ones not bad either. My only issue is that its a bit narrow on my screen. I have a 17" flat screen LCD monitor running 1280x1024 resolution and it fills up about a quarter of the width of my screen.
Good on ya for keeping it standards compliant and accessible!

Hi, SirHans004! Welcome to TWF! Thanks for looking at some other sites here, we really appreciate it.
My first impression of your site is that it's really cute! Nice, unique colour scheme and quirky graphics. I like it. I think this is a big improvement over the old one because it's much more unique. The black background look is so tired and overdone, it's nice to see something interesting and unusual.
Now that I'm looking a little closer I notice that the navigation isn't working in my browser (Opera 7). The items are all just piled on top of another
. Works fine in Firefox though.
I also think that you could use a little bit more work on the graphic header. I think the text should be a little bit bigger and moved a little bit further away from the edge. Also pay some attention to the visual relationship between the "HHG" and "HH Galaxy" text. They're a little bit too far away from each other now. The buildings are cute, I like them a lot, but I think it would be better if there were three of them. You see that theme a lot in design - groups of three are more attractive than groups of two. Put them closer together too.
I really like the lines you've used on the right edge of the header. That's a really nice touch.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Suzanne:
Yes, I was somewhat inspired by the SimpleBits design...
I have realized that the /comic/ directory is open, and it will be fixed soon- The old version (in the root directory) will be moved to an "archive" folder of sorts and the new version (/comic/future/) will be moved to the root directory. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll make another .htaccess to redirect /comic/ to the root directory. (Or something else...)
hhg.firewebx.com and all subdirectories are mine. I am hosted at firewebx.com.
Andy:
While it may seem a bit odd on your screen, that was the intended effect. I want the site to appear small on most screens, but accessible on resolutions down to 640x480. Sometimes HHG reflects what I am in real life... small.
Megan: Thanks for all of that constructive criticism!
As you may have realized by reading (!) my last few entries, I was in Antigua for a week with a 3-year old Sony Vaio laptop with nothing but Paint and a tiny touchpad mouse. What you see now as the header was the best I could do. Now that I'm back home with my dear Photoshop Elements, I'll be able to fix those things you pointed out, and I'll make the text prettier.
As for the Opera 7 "bug," I'll have to do some research. (Either that, or bang my head against the keyboard)
For all of you who care:
If you've read the latest entry on my site, you'll know what I'm talking about here: Is a name change advisable, or not? I have considered changing the name "HH Galaxy" to something more... flowing. I think something like "sidulus" would sound better. Do you agree?

if you can swing a domain name ($7US?) and a name with more sticking power, go for it! HH Galaxy is what? Hans H_ Galaxy? I'd probably go for something else. Even your name alone would be easier to remember?

Well, I think my name alone would be much worse... "Hans Hyttinen" is nearly impossible to spell (or pronounce) to most of the people I've met. I have been considering a domain name... but I don't feel like I need one just yet.
Also, thanks for strengthening my hunch that HH Galaxy was rather "undefined."
For now, I'm considering "sidulus" meaning "little star."

It's a nice looking site, good colours and navigation works well
Bit narrow for my liking.
Who is your target audience tho?

Target audience, you say? Urm, well... I don't really have one. How can you have a target audience when you don't really have any kind of audience at all? (Or is that exactly what's needed to have an audience?)
Now that I think of it, I guess my target audience would be anyone who is relatively adamant about web standards and accessibility, along with XHTML and CSS-based design. Including anyone who cares about my life and photos that I take.

Good news, everyone! HH Galaxy has now successfully completed its name to change to Sidulus! Plus, the layout got some more blues.... And there's a new address! Get it all at sidulus.firewebx.com !
Urm, sorry about. Just had to get it out of me.

Well, I'm afraid I can't do anything about that. Is this an error when accessing the main page? It ought to work... I tested not too long ago (today), and also tested it a minute ago. Maybe try again...
I'll check some settings to make sure it works.
EDIT: Too many connections? That's an odd error...

OK, there's nothing I can do about it. I got an email from my host; they're having problems with Apache and mySQL, so if it works one minute, it may not the next. I hope nothing serious happens/ed.

Ah, you're quite right Jeeves. I've had that idea in mind for a long time. There were so many other things I had to get done first with site, so I put it off until now. Expect to see text-changeability this week! (Either that or you have the right to come to my house and kick me)
Thank you for all the comments!

Well it certainly sounds like I'd be a part of your target audience, unfortunately I'm not too happy as I get a MySQL error:
...Doh!
Hurry up and fix it - judging by what the others are saying this is a site worth looking at!

And I wasn't disappointed! That site's so cute, I love it!
I love your personal branding i.e. "Little Star" and the your style of writing is very good, you raise interesting issues and provide food for thought - essential ingredients for a good blog
The only thing I dislike about this site - and stop me if I'm being too picky - is that the text - size cannot be changed, IMO if you are that bothered about accessibility you wouldn't restrict the font size

Have to say the site is lovely other than that though. I can see many of the web designers we admire are the same.

All I can say, is that I LOVE IT. I spent quite a bit of time on your site...particularly the links section. I, too, am swiftly becoming a huge proponent of web standards & website usability. I also plan on adding you to my daily reads.
By the way, Yahoo doesn't validate either. Kinda makes you wonder huh???
