In the early years when i just started learning web design. i learn to build sites from the ground up. Nowadays time is short and found CMS systems have made my life a thousand times easier. For all the designers/developers out there which CMS system do you use and why did you chose that system

I think I used the popular ones, hmmm I like

-drupal because of the shopping cart and seller e-commerce ready plugins... also modular

-joomla/mambo of all the wonderful plugins and community services available...

-wordpress good way for blogging and personal sites, also has a bunch of plugins to extend it more... I like to mention it has an idiot proof admin CP...

Let me start with those... I have more in mind...

Joomla is the one that I use the most since it has the most active community out there. Drupal is my second choice.

CMS' make things easier in the end, but in the development stage I find that they are a lot more work than coding a static site.

What to use depends on the site/what it's function will be and client budget.

I have used pMachine on a lot of sites for full content management. Haven't actually used Expression Engine yet, but I hear it's excellent.

I've not used OSCommerece yet, but I think that would be what i'd choose for a site that needed to sell things.

Personal opinion is that you are much better off going with Joomla. All of the core developers and most of the Mambo community is with Joomla now since the big breakup last year. Joomla is also where most of the development is going on. Many component/add-on developers are now only supporting Joomla.

yes this is right, i know about this but i am used with mambo and to be honest with you i have try it joomla components in mambo and they work. not all of them but the most of them they work. and the one which they dont work i just try to fix them with the help of the mambo forum members. so in the end both of them are good.

The modules work for now. After Joomla goes to version 1.5, there is a good chance that they won't without difficulty.

I'm currently using a few different ones.

Drupal - Primarily for personal sites that want a blog and a few other things
PHP-Nuke - News sites, or sites where simple text submissions by users are required
BBlog - Very simple blog script. I'm actually switching away from it due to a lack of effective comment spam filtering
Wordpress - My new "simple blog script" of choice.

Hi Guys

The more I read the more I am confused with CMS. The very first thing I would need are templates this means a design to suit. So we are back to webdesigners? The only thing I can see that CMS is suitable for is to maintain your site once its been designed by a designer correct. I so want to cut down my time with adding content to my site and I have several mini site also. With the possibility of adding 1 a month or every other month. I am really not sure where to go for the best or what to do.

Wordpress is best for the novice to start a mini website. I started with Wordpress as well, start up a page is such easy and we have no worry on the page arrangement unless you have specific expectation of web design.

The plugins are powerful too, there are variety to choose from. If you know simple scripting, you can alter the script as well. Eventually, your site will look different from others Smiling

I think Wordpress outshines Joomla, it is super easy to manage, duplicate, and create website for clients with a super easy backend to pass to them when you are done. It is not just for blogs any more, you can create a stunning information site or community with ease.
