Aside from searching for a free service to include a counter on my sites, is there a way to code a counter into the page? I work in HTML primarily but is there some way to do this? Also, you should probably know that I want it to count visitors not hits, so if the same IP comes back to the counting page several times I don't want it to count over. Can someone help me or am I asking too much?

Get a decent hosting provider, they should provide you a behind the scenes stats package that gives you way more information that just the number of hits your page gets.

i haven't used a visible counter on any of my sites for years. If you have a decent host you can get stats from there and there isn't another bit of code you have to have on your actual page.
