/me say you should avoid using Javas like that as much as possible as they tend to slow down pages and look "tacky". If you want something that displays lastest message boards topics, you can get hacks from the vBulletin Forums for free that are plain text and customizable.

this is not true, It mostly depends how you make the applets.

I have a java ticker that is 12k and works perfect. I have seen some Flash
logos that really kill your browser.
