Hi, I would like to add sms alerts to my website.
ie. users can register for alerts from my site and then i'll be able to send alerts out to registered users.
Does anyone have any idea how to go about this? I've heard that there are sites that do this for free? From searching on the net all i'm able to find is companies offering to send the webmaster an alert when there site goes down...

There's a service I used previously which does SMS messaging in basic, simple ways.

They do have a template for website integration etc. I suggest you experiment with this service. It's easily usable and you can pay with paypal which I like.

Easy enough to do if you know how to use webservices, what language is your website written in?

I think you have two way:
One is use the api provided by the mobile company,of course you must pay it before.
Or you can find some website will provide such webservices.
Even it's a little more expensive than mobile company,but it easy to get.
If you just need send a little sms,you had better to use the website.
