I thought it might be fun to set up a newsletter for my website. I like the mass email thing I can do on my PHPbb forums so maybe that's fine but maybe a one-per-month affair at my site to let people know we're still alive wouldn't go amiss.

Two questions:

1. What's the best software/code to use? It has to be free, of course, and easy both for me to use and for people to sign up with their e-mail addresses?

2. Is it actually worth bothering? With spam filters being what they are, and so forth, are people likely to receive it anyway?

There is one called PHPList I think it is, it's part of fantasio which can come with Cpanel. Have never used it myself, just use my own scripts.

It's up to you if you bother or not, if you have a lot of AOL adresses you'll be surely banned by them and all it takes is one absent minded person to report your newsletter as spam and you'll find yourself on all sorts of banned lists.
RSS feeds seem to be the way to go at the moment, or just use an annoucement page
