**new sites not visible to BT customers**

Hi - this originally came up in a previous thread where I was asking people to rate my website, however on realising that a number of people could not access it the topic changed so I would like to put it here.

Basically, BT are performing updates on their servers - it has been going on since May this year and they expect it to continue into October. During this time they will not be updating their DNS cache - i.e. any websites / domains created in this time will not be visible to many BT customers.

If, like me you are likely to be inconvenienced by this, or you think it is unacceptable that the country's largest telecom provider is doing something like this then please take a minute to sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/btdns - this is definately something which can make the news, and hopefully that can force BT to do something about it.

You can find more details regarding the problem on the petition page.

Thank you for your support, please feel free to post any queries here.

Typical BT, possibly more effective than signing a petition would be raising complaints with BT and if they don't resolve those satisfactorily contact OFCOM. I presume BT is also one of the ISPs threatening to charge the BBC for its iPlayer?

Hi, thanks for your reply - I can't tell you how good it is to have a thoughtful, mature response after actually bothering to post this topic on MySpace forums...

You're right, the petition isnt going to do much on its own - but im hoping to get enough signatures to take it to niche press. Many of my clients work in the NHS and a magazine aimed at General Practitioners may be interested in the story / how it is affecting GP websites / patients in particular.

To be honest I had never heard of OFCOM although from the site they seem to be just what i'm looking for so thanks very much

James
