I just found this site, and thought what the heck why not join. I am new here not new to being a webmaster. I have a question and wasn't sure where to put it sooo....I'll ask it here.
I am a PHP programmer and before I just made scripts and such for friends and family. Well, I finally have decided to put a site up of my own. Just basiclly a personal portfolio and a place where I can advertise my skills and hopefully land a contract or two.
Well I am completed with my site content wise. I decided since there are alot of non-english speaking people, to make my site multi-lingual. I want to know when I translate do I keep product names the same? For example I will setup quite a few scripts for people such as phpBB, VB, IPB, PHP-Nuke, etc. should I put the names as PHP-Nuke or PHP-arma nuclear(php-nuke in esp.).
So really my question is does anyone have any recomendations or guidlines for making a site multi-lingual? and should I keep product names in english.

If you were developing the products, you might want to change the names, however if you're just talking about the products, you need to use the correct names.
e.g. if PHPNuke went by PHPArmaNuclear en español then you would use PHPArmaNuclear on sites translated into Spanish. If it *doesn't*, then you would use PHPNuke.

Personally I think your wrong there. PHPNuke is the brand name and shouldnt be translated. You don't see Apple calling themselves "pomme" on french sites do you? On apple.fr they even refer to the airport express in english.

Actually, that's what I'm saying -- if the person/company who has created the product has a different brand name in different countries/languages, then you should use the different brand name when your audience is the same. Otherwise, stick with the original...
