Are there security issues relating to using a shared web host for an ecommerce website?
I read somewhere that this can pose major security risks...

In my very limited knowledge, shared hosting is like an apartment with one main entrance and lots of rooms inside. If someone forced in to one room doesn't mean everybody in the apartment were ransacked. If one of your neighbors in shared hosting made security lapses, it does not necessarily mean you have security problems. The work of your host is to make sure the perimeter and the main door is secure.

But why are you going with shared hosting? Is dedicated server not worth investing for your e-business?

Always better for e commerce site is use managed dedicated server. No spammers attack also many info stealer virus can effect.. Shared is secured but some host facing problem. But huge diff in praces btw shared and M-dedicated... So according to the requirement and site nature choose the host.IF choosing shared should take from reliable host

It can be but if you make the security of your site more strong then it can reduce the risk chances.
