I need a small prog just to make transparent images!

They may have a cheap or shareware version out still, not sure (it's been years!). lview.com I think.

Otherwise, I think you're looking at something like PhotoImpact ulead.com or PSP jasc.com for that sort of information.

You can always check out tucows.com or downloads.com for freeware and shareware options as well.
