Well it's either a good thing or Google are finding that since every man and his dog have adwords no-one's bothering to click on the ads as they know exactly what they are, therefore if people aren't making enough money through adsense they'll start looking at other advertising methods.
Maybe, just maybe (and this is pure conjecture), Google are desperately extending the functionality of their product so this doesn't happen.
