“A site MUST be hosted at a server located in the country that you are targeting for optimal results. A website hosted in Philippines or Australia will show up in SERP’s for those respective countries but not in US. Google filters the results as per the server location. Better to move site to the host located in US if targeting local market”.

Is this statement true?
Need some insights.

Thanks

I agree with this statement. I have been using both local webhosting and US based webhosting.

And I have learned that my websites which locate with US based webhosting get better search engine search results and positions than the local based webhosting's.

And those website also get listed at the best top 5 pages from major search engines.

Moreover, I can get more clients, visitors, and customers to my websites.

By the way, this is just someone who wants the international customers only. If you want local customers only, just use your local webhosting instead because it is about connection to your websites and visitors too.

armanbarbuco, can you provide a reference for that quote?

I've never heard of this being true but then again, I haven't heard of it not being true either. For the main/US site, that is. I think they do look at the host locations for their localized searches.

So do they consider the main engine at Google.com to be the US version and not general to all countries? That's obviously a big problem for sites hosted in other countries!!

The statement is true
It is necessary to host your server in the same location where you want to target the visitors.

It only has very little effect. This is just due to the different datacenters and the update process it undertakes every once in a while.

Now you can target the geographic location of your site in webmaster tools. I asked there if checking the "Do not associate a geographic location with this site" will override any other indicators they're using (host location).

I'd also still like to know if they consider the main index at google.com to be the US site and if any sites geotargetted to other countries will have weaker rankings in that index.
