You are attempting to create your own forums? That's a *VERY* complicated thing to take on, IMO, especially considering you have limited PHP skills. Why not use one of the free options out there like phpBB, IkonBoard, or InvisionBoard? They are advanced and have been worked on by many contributors. All I'm saying is there is no reason to reinvent the wheel...

Hi Renegade,
Are you simply trying to add forums to your site, and looking for a template for them? If so, what forum package are you using? Most forums sites generally have links to external templates or theme add ons for that forum.

Good luck,

Brian Farkas

does your web host support PHP and MySQL?

I just installed phpbb last week and had no problems.

Give us some more info, like what errors are you getting, did you upload in assci and binary as they request, did you chmod any folders, did you upload case insensitive ...

Hi, you said you couldn't install phpbb either? Did you follow the exact instructions in this install document? http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/docs/INSTALL.html

Do you have PHP capabilities on that server? It sounds like Apache isn't configured to parse *.php files.

Sounds like a server-side problem.

Tell you what, why don't you start up a thread in the Server-Side Scripting forum, and also include more details - like just what errors you're getting, and what code you're seeing. Wink

Are you opening it in a browser or in a text file??
I've spent a while figuring out for people why they can't install a script, and they are opening the raw code, not using a browser Smiling

Try checking of the install.php has <? or <?php in it. If they used the shortcut ( <? ) then your server might only be set up to handle <?php in which case it would not parse the file.

Have you set up the MySQL database before running the install?

That wouldn't matter. He said the Raw code was displaying. Nothing to do with MySQL.

No, he sent me a link earlier. What comes up is error messages. One was "db not found" or something to that effect. I can't quite remember. But it was definitely not PHP code. Wink

If your still getting the errors.

I have seen a similar question asked before about phpbb and I nearly did it myself when installing it. You have to make a database table before you install it, so it has somewhere to install to.
This may not be the problem in your case but thought I'd share it for anyone else having a similar problem.

just check on the forum (of the forum) and see if you have to delete any files once you have it set up, I know with phpbb there are 3 files that need deleting

One time I was having the same problem.... Check the install.php file and make sure that there are no extra returns at the end of the file. I know that it is odd but I have had it happen a couple of times.

somethines you can and sometimes
you can't.

I use Sitenet BBS on a couple of my sites you can download a freeware version from http://www.focalmedia.net, it is honestly one of the easiest forums installations i have ever done.
