On another forum I am on was reading a discussion about how websites look to someone who is color blind. So this got me to looking into seeing if there was a tool for simulating this. Found one, thought I would share it here for others who might be interested in checking out their designs.

Thanks for that link Greg, I tackled that issue in one of my blog entries at blogaholik.com ... colorblindness and color effects...

Being red/green color blind myself and therefore having researched this and discussed with other color blind people here's how I develop sites...
Take a screen grab of whatever you design - load it into a graphics program and convert it to monochrome. If there are texts on backgrounds etc that are difficult to read then they are the ones to work on because it all comes down to contrast for color blind people.
It may be glaringly obvious to you that you have yellow on a green background - to a red/green color blind person it's all of a mush...
So I wouldn't worry about all those filters and stuff at that page - just do the monochrome test - it works every time.
And remember, 8% of all men are color blind. That's a HUGE audience that most web designers don't cater to. More of them spend their time making their stuff Mac-compatible than color-blind compatible

Really? I didn't realise the numbers were that high! jesus, I'll bear that in mind in future - thanks for the contrast tip as well!
