You have to choose a language based on what you have to achieve with it - not on versatility, compatibility, data manipulation or security. All languages are compatible with what purpose they are designed for, the manipulation of data and security depends on the programmer, not the language.

If anyone is writing for multiple platforms then Java might be best, as one compilation runs on any platform. If anyone is writing for a web server, Ruby, Python or PHP then that would be JavaScript, you have no choice.

This will depend on your requirements. If you are doing web programming I prefer PHP. It is very effective in designing web pages more creatively.

There is no "best" programming language. It depends on what you wish to program in the future. So there are 4 main languages which I prefer and also these are the most popular languages whish web developers currently use.
1. C++
2. Java
3. HTML
4. PHP

Hi All,

I think it depends on the requirements set of the project. For me its always Coldfusion or CFML. Ive used it for small websites for clients through to large intranet applications for a large petroleum company in South Africa.

I like the coding style, as i think it is quick to learn, and can run on various server OS's (Windows, Linux, BSD) and cant connect to various DB's .

I also like to coding style as it is tagged based, so if setting a variable its <cfset var = 4>

Plus now days there is Free CFML Engines like Open Bluedragon (which is my prefered CFML Engine).

No particular programming language can be considered as the best programming language as all have their own individual pros and cons. Java is considered good because of platform independence, .Net because of good interface, PHP for web development because it is light weight.

It depends up on the project what you have selected. PHP is best programming language to develop dynamic websites. If you have banking websites JAVA is best it is a plat form independent.

PHP is the best server side, open source programming language. Because PHP is simple, scalable, easy to understand, free of cost and more secure .

You can't choose a one best programming language. All languages are good. You have to learn the language in which you have interest. Every language has its own advantages and disadvantages.

It basically depends on what you wish to program in the future, that which is the best programing language. So, the C++, Java, HTML are the most commonly used languages and have a good track of programming as well.

It depends on what functionality you want in your website as i agree with apsingh for security point of view, java is more secure from any language. I love php because it is open source and you can find most of the solutions on internet free of cost.

It's depend upon clients requirement, PHP and .Net I is better. If you are thinking about more secure then I'll suggest for JAVA. make sure JAVA is not free where as you .NET and PHP always free.

I think this will depend on your requirements, if you have good knowledge of web design or start to do web design then PHP is best. If you want to develop an application, then you can go for android or iPhone development.
