I have a client who is currently hosted in USA with istores.com
He needs to move to a UK host so that he shows up in UK Google searches but he is a bit of a technophobe and wants to carry on using their on-line web builder thingy. He has no idea how to use dreamweaver or FrontPage.
Anybody know of a UK based company that we can move to?

You need to find a UK host WITH UK located servers. Just a note for you that many UK providers do not have UK location servers. Also be expected to pay a little more for UK servers.

Just 1 note about 1 and 1 UK though, the servers are in Germany and not in the UK.

Are you sure in it? As for UK hosting you may look at xilo.net and unitedhosting.co.uk. I have heard they are good.

I can find a UK host easy enough. It's the web builder I'm after.
Must be hosted on a UK IP block.
I think I'll have to show him how to use FP.

Or you could build him a website with a CMS backend... Then he has full control of the content but can't screw up the design

No - If you host with 1and1 you will not be found for UK searches on Google unless you have a .uk TLD.
The company is based in the UK. The servers are in Germany.

Hampstead, you could try asking your client to register a .co.uk and parking his current domain on top.

I could, but that brings a different set of problems. The current host do not allow 301s or fully support .htaccess files so I wouldn't be able to set up a Google friendly way of redirecting and / or rewriting the URLs.
There would possibly be problems with the sandbox and ageing of the URL.
