So far on my search i have found godaddy.com which is where i got mine, it was 8.95 for 1 year, and down from that. Some went as low as 6.00, How much did you guys pay for your domain names, anyone lower?

I use Godaddy, but the DataCenter I use to rent my webserver from has an ad for $5.00 per domain.

I use GoDaddy. While they are competitive on price, their back-end support and management tools make a huge difference in how easy it is to manage my domains. I'd stay with them even if they raised the price of domains because of the value of that system.
