I need your advise as for e-commerce software. Magento was recommended to me as the best one. SimpleHelix.com seems nice for that. And I'd like to test their speed. How can I do it?

There are 2 different things:
1. download speed - speed of download test file - say you how fast the network of the webhosting provider (in your case for SimpleHelix.com).
2. Other speed - speed of the CPU etc - say you how fast the software will be working on the Server.
I hope now that you understand that they are 2 different issues. But both are important. I have heard that Simplehelix.com spend a lot of money for their hardware and they are one of the best web hosting for e-commerce software like Magento.
As for download speed I believe that it is in approximately the same diapason as fo most US located web hosts.

Magento might be rather slow, check if Simplehelix.com offers any trial period so that you can see how quickly magento is running on their servers.
Generally Simplehelix.com is a stable recommended host offering high uptime and zero overselling.
