Hi I am about to change hosts because I am not happy with the one I am currently using. I have 3 sites and use wordpress, php, frontpage (I would like to change my sites to run in dreamweaver) open realty and flash. At the moment I am paying 260 USD a year and I am having a hard time getting in touch with my host when technical problems arise. As you all know this could be a problem...

I would be happy if you all can give me any unbiased recommendations of which hosting provider I should switch too. Thanks and regards.

I am very picky about my hosting, I can recommend a few (including my own reseller hosting)

I am very happy with Hot Drupal which is Drupal-centric (as you may assume) and has phenomenal features (SSH, ffmpeg, etc) and excellent service (I am on a first name basis with the owner, Steve, who often handles support tickets). They provide "hybrid vps" - one server for your web site files, a different one for email etc. They have plans starting at $9.95/mo - as you go up, fewer IP neighbors - on my $15/mo plan, I have about 60 neighbors, compared with 500+ on typical shared hosting.

My personal site is still on BlueHost (I plan to move it to Hot Drupal soon). BH is a reliable shared host - however, although they allow SSH, I was unable to install ffmpeg or SVN there, and they do not support them. I chose BH for good hardware over excellent customer support. Occasionally the page load is long, generally it is ok.

My own netsperience web hosting is very inexpensive (plans start at $4/month) and extremely reliable, with excellent prompt support. I am quite picky about hosting and I can heartily endorse this solution for basic shared hosting.

If you want to try free ad-free hosting with php/mysql etc, try FreeSpace

Other hosts where I have had positive experiences include RackSpace (my client has a Plesk CP which I dislike, but I think you can choose Cpanel) and although the admin is annoying, GoDaddy is reliable.

Whatever you do, avoid StartLogic and Webhostingpad, I have had nightmares with them.

I would be worried if you couldn't endorse your own hosting service.

Jenn Kyrnin at About.com is calling for and publishing web hosting reviews

I would be worried if you couldn't endorse your own hosting service.

I not only endorse my hosting, I enthusiastically recommend it - and I am not in it (solely) for the $$$ - it is an option for clients and colleagues who need good cheap hosting, and it has a very quick and easy setup process.

I did not mention earlier, all plans include a free domain for one year Smiling

I've leased a few servers from both:
http://www.theplanet.com
http://www.softlayer.com

Both recently, and over the years. I've found both their services, and service excellent.

Cheers,
Shaggy.
