Hi,I am scanning my old family pictures onto cd's for everyone, and I am not sure if I should be saving them as a .tiff or .jpeg file. If anyone knows, or has done this before, please let me know. Some of the family members will have to take the cd somewhere to get them printed, and some will be using their own computers. Thanks for any and all the help, Deb

Awhile back I had some large posters printed at a print shop and they definitely preferred tiff's for printing.

Yep, I've had the same experience as Megan. Although they are much larger in file size, they are also better quality. Since your putting them on CDs I don't think you'll have a problem with the size either.

Thank you for the advice. It has been taken and I will use the .tiff format.

Yup - for printing it's best to have tiff or eps at a higher resolution. 225 to 300 is great.

Most printers probably prefer Tiffs, however not all.

Jpegs at 100% are virtually identical in quality but not exactly.

Tiffs do allow you to more exactly specify things like ink types, and calibrations related to dot spread.

If your curious to see areas that will not print the way they look on your monitor and you have Photoshop go to View>Gamut Warning.
