Just started a gig at a government agency that has a wide-range of individuals hitting the site. Various scientists and the public are the main users, but lawyers and politicans also use the site.
I'm trying to think of an index/portal of sorts that presents information tailored to a particular user when he/she clicks on "geologist" for example.
Any tips or current websites out there doing this? What would this be called in terms of a link on a navbar?

Well I'm not sure what exactly you are asking but you could send a cookie to the client after they click on 'geologist' which would id them next time they visit, and therefor you could send them custom info.
