Hi

My Name is Jude.
I'm just starting a Mall, and later maybe an adult site. I am looking for any and all information, suggestions, help sites with marketing, promoting, advertising, and Where to find out what products sell the best on the net.

I am not a Webmaster by any means but I have been doing a lot of research. I am just beginning my web pages and need all the advice I can get there too.

I could write a book as an answer to such a vague question
I will be happy to help you, but please be more specific. Thanks.

Do we really need another adult site? I just read that MP3 is now equal to sex in the search engines. If you want to make money that is going to be the next big thing.

Jim,
You bring up an interesting point here.

Why do many people (not directed specifically at you Jude) decide to start their online presence with an Adult site or an MP3 site, when both of these are not only looked down on by the internet community (MP3's/Porn being often illegal) but hard to maintain (keeping an up to date a big database of remotely linked MP3's is virtually impossible as they are always being moved and/or renamed).
No only this but you are entering the most packed niche on the net. Surely these people have other interests which would be more appropriate/profitable in the long term.

I'm curious about the mp3 thing. I heard they were illegal but I've noticed them in respectable sites like ZD net. My dad, who volunteers at the university music library said that the library would be including mp3 music on there data base. Did I miss something???

sorry Jude,
I got carried away without addressing your question. take a look at JP's site for starters, with time you can find all the information you need.

books books books, I recently saw a news clip about how to start an online bookstore, similar to amazon.com from your own home. No inventory, little start-up costs.

computers, software, online trading, travel?
I don't know much about those things but they "sell" on the net. I see a lot of auctions too, just sell everyone elses stuff

take care,

Caolyn,
The MP3 format is legal in itself but despised by music companies because it is often used to record copyrighted material which can easily be distributed.

Sorry to get off the topic, but my friend composes his own music and I was wondering if it would be hard for him to create MP3 files from his music. Anyone know whats involved?

Also, I would assume this isn't a very safe way to dissplay his original songs as it sounds easy for people to take them. Is this correct?

A visite to http://www.mp3.com should clear up most of your queries.
It would indeed be easy to copy his songs if they were in MP3 format (as it would in any other format .ra .wav .au .mid .la etc...

SURF SURF SURF.
(and don't shout.)

If you want to put up a site you've got to know other sites about "your" topic.
You have to know layouts, contents, banners, etc.

For a start I would recommend building some pages. Try to make 3 to 4 pages about a topic of interest (for you and maybe others), put it on a free-host (xoom, anglefire, geocitys to name a few) and try to get visitors.

If that work's out and you still like it build a whole site on ONE topic, but don't make the error I keep repeating:
DON'T buy the server and then start building.
Build your site and when it's finished buy webspace.

BTW:
JP: "Why do many people (not directed specifically at you Jude) decide to start their online presence with an Adult site"

Because it works.

Just looked at our corporate proxy-logs ... and 40% contain adult sites/pages. And it's strictly forbidden !

I had a small (20 pics, legal) site two years ago and just used an AVS and it paid. But the reputation isn't that good. When it was time to get a job I decided to built a site that you can show to your boss. (I know he looks at porn, He knows that I know, but he'll never tell Wink )

Anti,
Sure it works, my first personal site was a hugely successfull music/celeb site. It was so big within a month it got pulled of every server I put it on. (sadly while being offline my PC crashed and I lost all of it Sad ).
The thruth is though, there is no chance of futthering your career by moving in this direction if you want to stand out.
What I mean here is that you can have a porn site that pays your bills/has excellent design/content etc. but is not recognised as a successful site by the internet community. I expect/know there are many many adult sites that recieve far more traffic than TWF's (this site) but the difference is that TWF's are fast becoming the most successful webmaster forums on the net!.
