Has anyone heard/used a graphics program called Canvas by Deneba, here's a quote I got from a friend about it
"It'll do just about all that Photoshop will do, plus it's a page-layout program, and it's a mechanical-drawing program. Draws too. And best of all, you can use drawing (vector), photo and text in the same hunk of art, be able to edit any one, and still use the same commands on all. It's mighty impressive"

Figured I'd ask before I go hunt it down, as I dont think this person is talking about it web graphics wise

Let us know if you end up giving it a try - sounds interesting. I think I may have heard of this but I don't remember any specifics...

I'm downloading the trial version now as I can never get Photoshop to work on my pc & I want more of a photo editing program.

It's a vector/bitmap illustration package. I used it some time ago. (ver. 5.5) It's not a bad program, but it's pretty expensive and it is a was very slow with screen regens. (legacy from originating in the Mac world. may be improved now) I know I did not like the user interface. Very confusing. It will edit bitmaps, but PS or PSP are a better choice's for bitmap editing.

For illustration, I've been using a program called Xara X for the last 3 years and can't imagine a better one. It also is a vector tool, but does allow the use (not editing) of imported or internally generated bitmaps and some PS compatible plugins for bitmaps. The interactive fill, brush creation, & transparency features alone are worth it. Go to http://www.talkgraphics.com and check out the Xara X Forum and Gallery. (and http://www.xaraxone.com as well.) Very easy to use (best user i/f I've seen in 14 yrs. of graphics), modestly priced ($150 USD), and incredible user based support forums.

Good Luck,
Ric

$400 bucks for the full version is a little too much for something that is not Photoshop. Come to think of it, that is too much for Photoshop.

I also tried it circa v.5 and didn't like the interface. Presumably it's improved by now.

Look here to see why this is the best vector illustration tool that no one (or not many anyway) has heard of.

Also, here is a poll from GraphicsNews.com in response to the question: "What's your favorite illustration application?"

Very good article in English from a German Computer mag. Also, reviewed in Dec. Communication Arts Magazine. The word is starting to get out about this tool.

Hey Korndragon,
That's really not very good advise... and you probably should not be saying things like that in a public forum; You don't know who is watching.

Software developers put a lot of work into creating a good product, and undermining them will only hurt future development of that company. It can also drive up prices for those of us who obtain their product through legal methods. That is probably one of the reasons that Photoshop is so expensive.

What about a demo, or getting a refund from the store where you bought it? I don't know, I guess the fact that warez is illegal just isn't very appealing to me. In any event, if you use it, it's up to you- but I wouldn't recommend any TWF members getting into it for the reasons above, and that you can get in a lot of trouble if you are caught.
