multiple site feed / portal
hi all..
I'm kinda stuck with this.. as its not something i've done before...
What would i use/need to create a site with product feeds from other sites?
What i'm intending to do is create a car sales site, which will list the stock of a few other car sites, and be searchable (similar in concept to rightmove.co.uk) .
Is this possible? obviously the feed sites will have a different format to one another, so is it possible to tie it all together? perhaps using an xml feed?

The important thing here is, do you have any involvement (or know the people) who run the sites you are wanting to get data from? If yes, then this wouldn't be hard to do, as you could ask them to set up a specific page (non-linked, you have to know the URL to visit it) that nothing but simple text that you could pull out from your site.
If not, then you could still do it, but you will have to keep on top of things as if the site you are getting the data from changes the layout format, it will throw your program off.
Do you have a sample of the sites you want to get your data from?

Thanks greg, yes i have involvement with the sites concerned.. would a simple text page do it?
All sites use a different format.. ie some are php+mysql, some asp etc etc..
What i was hoping to do was grab the data direct from the database, and use this data to populate my own site. this would also include images. I'm not sure a simple text page would give me the flexibility to display the cars and images, and also use a model/make search function effectively?
What i'm effectively doing is creating a car portal, with searchable listings of cars stored on other sites ... then a direct link to the relevant page on the partner site.

framing them, or if allowed, they can let you have holink access to their file via php, and use an include string... although this is slightly difficult to achieve...
