Web Site Critique Rules

Apparently someone deleted my last thread on this topic so I'll just re-post it and be a nuisance I guess...

In my last thread, I had expressed a distaste for the site critique request posting criteria... I (and a few others I know) think it's a rather stupid idea to limit site critique requests to simply one per three month span. It should be more like one per month to give serious webmasters a chance at consistant feedback.

We have to keep memberships on four other similar webmaster forum sites just to get critique on all our work... It's just a hassle really...

One of the reasons that rule is there is to stop spammers, If you notice, the mods ask people to review a few sites as per the posting agreement if they haven't followed the guidelines, this as well helps us filter out spammers who are just trying to list their site for traffic gain and nothing else.

We are pretty tolerant but you'd be suprised at how many fly-by nighters and spammers we get. None of the admin or mods get paid for helping here, it's all volunteer work (although they should send me away for spelling lessons, somewhere warm as its coming into winter here Laughing out loud ). We are only human, and like yourself, we loose it too, but we have to keep it out of the threads and fall back on the great team we have here to keep the sanity intact.

Suggestions are always welcome but think about all the bad apples we get on a daily basis, and the critique section is one of the most popular.

One suggestion we've had is to lock that section and do an approval system where mods have to approve the posts first.

That is a good idea but it may take too long for mods to approve them and such... You really wouldn't have to worry if you allowed one per month because the fly-by-nighter will still only post that one single time and never come back, so why not let those of us who stick around the luxury of more consistant feedback...

Try it for awhile and at least give it a shot... Like the old adage goes: "You never know until you try it..."

Which reminds me... I forgot to re-add our Agreement Hack after the forum upgrade.

The current draft of this agreement can be seen here: http://www.webmaster-forums.net/showthread.php?t=22748

The Posting Frequency limit applys per site. If you have several sites, you may create multiple threads (one for each site) within the 3 month period. If you have multiple designs for a single site, it's best to link to all designs within the same thread and label the designs. This allows critiquers to reference designs in a compare and contrast fasion.

The reason to the 3 month limit is that if your design changes more frequently, our forums would be littered with duplicate(-ish) threads. As well, by using a previous thread for a re-design within the 3 month span, this allows critiquer's to review a history of suggestions. This gives them an idea as to the evolution of your sites design, which will (ideally) allow them to give a better critique.

Does this make sense?

In all honestly, this forum is always being discussed in private among the staff. And we are very much open to new ideas. For the time being, these are the rules. But I'm always open to making alterations.

Gotcha. Much more clear. That's actually exactly what I meant was to allow one post per site. Thanks for clarifying.
