Well, I just do believe that my private message sender is broken. I have PM'ed two people over the past week and have gotten no reply from either.
(Or maybe they just didn't feel like talking.)
Actually, I think that my PM thingy kicks the person that I messaged offline.

If you assigned a read receipt to your PMs, you should be able to check and tell if they read them or not.
