Login Problems

After yesterday's upgrades, I have had several users report that they are unable to login. All of the reports have stated that they are getting password denied errors when attempting to login.

It appears that during the upgrade, a number of passwords for users was corrupted. I don't know how many or which ones were so I can only inform you that if you are having problems logging in, please email [email protected] from the email address listed in your profile and include a new password that you would like set.

I was having this problem last night while the upgrading was in process, but it's fine now.

I didn't realize the upgrade took place and thought someone had gotten into my account or something. Glad it's working now.

I was able to logim but not post. Every time I clicked "Reply" I would be taken to the site's home page.

I have been using Nestscape Navigator 4.08.

I just tried IE 5.5 and it works ok, so it must be the version of NS I was using.

I will have to look into this tomorrow. I am not on my development machine so I don't have Netscape to test and correct this problem.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Christian.

If that were true then I couldn't have posted this. It is true that it is using encrypted passwords but I think that all that is required is for you to re-login with your existing username and old password. I am using the same password as before. It could be a IE 6 cookie problem.

I saw this thread over at V-bulletin site.

I'm certain that the upgrade for vBulletin encrypted the old passwords.

I'm running IE6 and have had no problems. I've not changed the IE security stuff, and I'm not using XP's firewall.

What extrmbob said is untrue. It my encrypt passwords but it doesn't change them. Would vb release software that had to have 1000's of users passwords changed manually? No.

And, my password hasen't been fixed. I've been waiting for two weeks, what gives?

vB does encrypt the passwords during the upgrade but it just encrypts the old ones. For 99% of people, I'm sure this didn't affect them. It has, however, affected a number of people and we are getting those errors corrected as they are brought to our attention.

Ken, please read my original message for instructions on getting your password corrected. At this time, I have not received an email from you regarding this issue so your password can not be updated.

Ken, I was having the same probs... I used this link to reset my pw and get a new one.

With that new pw I used the Control Panel to set my pw to the old one.

Hope it helps,

Yes, but you never replied. Send me an email from that account, and I'll change it. Just give me anything, and you can change it to whatever you like in the User CP.
