Whenever I try to post a reply, I do log in first. By the time I press the "preview" button, I find myself logged off, having to start over. This happens nearly every time.

Does anyone else have this problem? Or do my cookies go stale faster in this foggy California climate?

Tried ticking the text box remember me? It might be your ISP changing IP too often...

Yes, try using the remember me box and see if that helps. Unfortunately JeevesBond will be away for the next few days so he won't be able to check into it right away.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it and report back here later.

Later .. Not so bad now, when I remember to tick the box. But when posting several replies, I still get clobbered at some point.

You might want to check your time zone settings in your control panel

"Edit Settings"

Obviously being a standard member I have no idea how the forum checks for time of inactivity (and I have no way of checking)
But it is possible that a conflict between your actual local time zone and the one you have set in your control panel may be a culprit

Thanks for the suggestion, Greg. But, no, the settings are correct.

I got whacked again just now. This is getting annoying. Some of my replies never get posted. I do not always have time to login again (being on dial-up sometimes.)

FWIW - I subscribe to several forums, and have yet to get this hassle elsewhere.

By the way, I'm working on getting us away from this forum software. I've never had those problems, but I will say we've never been able to get vBulletin to work the way we would like.

Just hang on for the new software, it won't be too long. Smiling

A move to PHPBB?

I have installed and tested phpbb3, it has some fantastic options, controls and info outputs in the admin control panel

Thinks its still a little in the testing stages though, few teething problems etc

of course, phpbb2 works fantastic, with many mods and addons!

Sorry to disappoint you old boy, but we're moving to Drupal. Smiling

I have seen phpbb3 and it looks like a fantastic product, nice html/css output. Not sure whether it's still littered with security holes though, that's been a big problem in the past for them (even with the devs refusing to take responsibility), I didn't really look into the code.

Hopefully phpbb3 is a complete rebuild. Smiling

Actually phpBB3 is, and the phpbb companies main focus with that project was security. I've used it in a couple of forums before and it worked top notch, but if you are going to use it, I suggest waiting until a stable release comes out.

Am very glad to hear that. Smiling But either way, we're moving to Drupal not phpBB3. More competition for vBulletin is a good thing, particularly since it's standards compliant (and vB is awful in that area)!
