Is anyone else watching the NHL playoffs? I'm mostly following the eastern conference, since the west is 1) in the wrong time zone half the time 2) not televised a lot here and 3) boring (so far - no upsets yet).
Okay, I have to say it. WHOO-HOO! Big upset in Montreal tonight! I can't believe they DID IT!!!!!! Montreal Canadiens, 8th ranked team in the east, upsets the Boston Bruins, who were 1st!
So, who are you cheering for?

Well, it doesn't look like you guys have much to cheer about anymore
Too bad... I was really hoping that St.Louis could knock of detroit but I guess they were too strong. I wish someone could beat them though and make things interesting.
I just have to tell you why it's so exciting to see Montreal having so much success. Last September, right before the seasons started, the team captain, Saku Koivu, was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He was given a 50-50 chance. He kept fighting and really was an inspiration to everyone. He came back to play right at the end of the season and is now leading the team in scoring in the playoffs. I think he's playing as well as he ever has, banging and working hard and everything. It makes me teary just to think about it
It's also exciting to thnk that if they win this series there will definitely be a Canadian team in the final for the first time since 1994!

Sorry
It's ice hockey playoffs in the NHL (National Hockey League. The National originally meant Canada incidentally). It's a tournament to decide who wins the Stanley Cup and the league Championship. There are four rounds and each round is a best of seven series for the teams involved. It's followed quite heavily in Canada but I guess not in the 'states (even though they have 24 teams and we only have 6!)
The Detroit Red Wings are so good that I don't think anyone will be able to beat them. They just have a better team because they have more money than anyone else but I guess that's the way it goes now. There does seem to be quite a lot of fans in the Detroit area though.
I guess there's also playoffs going on in the NBA (basketball) but I don't really follow that. Freel free to discuss it here if you do though
