I remember the old days when TWF had an IRC Channel... So shall we revive the nostalgia of those days for the all new TWF?

Could be fun and helpful at some times. Might detract from forum postings for some things but on a whole could be good for fast support and general chat.

I'm going to vote no for now. Being perfectly candid I don't think we've got enough members to pull something like a chatroom off at the moment.
It's a good idea (and if enough people ask for it we'll implement it), but it would look really bad if we setup a chat room and there weren't constantly people in there.

That's kind of how I feel. I think you need a pretty active forum for a chat room to be effective. Therefore I chose the verb "could."

It would be nice, and i would use it, But I couldn't be on it all the time, the forum is nice but slow paced, so I can't imagine the chat room would be that much more effiecient

Well settle for a chatbox instead then?

I'm generally biased against chatboxes. What value do they add? Generally they're just full of people saying things like:
Sorry, not trying to put you down Demonhale, but chatboxes just don't really serve any purpose IMO.

visit my l33t site and that (spam url)
What about scheduling chats once a week or so? Obviously it's going to be hard to find a time that suits everyone but we could even have two sessions at different times for people in different parts of the world (and Jeevesbond, who's up at all hours anyway).

No offense taken, it's just with the new things in TWF, it would be pretty nice if there is a time where regular members can chat away... Hmmmm perhaps the time for this is not now, but I'm still hopeful...

That's what I think too. Am looking forward to a time when it is busy enough to do this. Glad you're not downhearted about it.

I abandoned the chat room on my own site because it was always empty. I think if you had scheduled chats and turned it on just for those it might be nice. But having an empty chat room all the time looks bad, I think.

Yes, an IRC room would be good if it was scheduled for discussions after an article at APC was posted or if a direction for TWF is to be decided upon or something. Other than that, it will mostly be empty
