I am in the process of building myself a new computer (which I'm sure i'll have problems with and be right back here with)
I would like to have Linux running at all times for my server, and use windows for certain apps and testing purposes.
I asked this before, and got a response, but I can't seem to find it...
Whats that link? VMware??
The new comp will be a AMD Athlon 1GHZ 512 MB Ram, 30 GB HD server/workstation.
Will running two OS's slow it down horribly, or only a little bit??
Thank you!!

You will have some slowdown since it runs the other OS in a window as a virtual machine but with a beefy system like yours, it won't be all that bad.

Here is the link:
Vmware

Which version of VMware do I want?
VMware Workstation for Windows NT/2000 2.0
VMware Workstation for Linux 2.0
VMware Express for Linux 2.0
VMware GSX Server for Windows NT/2000 1.0
VMware GSX Server for Linux 1.0
VMware ESX Server
I want Linux running all the time, and WinME in a second window

It really depends on which OS you will be running most of the time. If Windows NT/2000, then choose the first option. If Linux, choose the second option.

I always want Linux up, and I want Windows ME to run in a window.
Also, should I use the VMware Workstation or the VMware GSX Server?

OK...
So I want to download the VMware Workstation for Linux 2.0 and I can run RedHat 6.2 (or mandrake 8 i havent decided yet) as a Web Server, and have Windows run as a graphical window.
Do I have this right?

Yep, but you are downloading trialware. I don't know if anything has been disabled in it or if it expires any time.

What WinApps do you want to run ?
I used to use VMWare (for almost three years),
but wine got so stable lately that I removed VMWare.

There is really only one application that I need windos for:
Lotus Notes, the company dictated cooperation tool. Sad

For everything else there is a pure linux replacement....
