I found http://www.cpanel.net, but I'm corn-fused... Sad

Who produces Cpanel? (I was always under the impression it was an open-sorce project)

What is this about a license?

I can't answer your question... but I do know that my host (http://www.mbshost.com) uses CPanel and I simply love it!

Cpanel is quite popular among web hosts. It is a subscription based software. I believe that the license is per server.

ya.. I couldn't find anything below $100/month.

Is there an alternative to CPanel?

You can get cpanel for under $100/month, but only if you co-locate or lease a dedicated server from one of their distributors.

Cpanel is produced by John Nick Kostin mainly, and the "company" behind it is called DarkORB Communications, Inc. I think there are a few people helping him keeping track of everything, but he does most of the development.

Hope this helps,

Brian

Welcome to TWF, sodapopinski. And thanks for the links.

I just want something to throw on my web server (linux box in my house) for family member's to manage their personal sites. With something like CPanel, they can manage their own settings and I can just let the box sit there while I twiddle my thumbs. Wink

Are there any free alternatives? I wont be making any money off of this, so I'm not about to pay hundreds of dollars, but a reasonable fee I would consider.

Only thing I could find was a test license. They expire after 15 days.

Did I overlook something, or is that what you saw?

Hi Mark,

This was discussed at Webhostingtalk quite some time ago. Anyway, below is the link to a long lists of control panels(some are free) where you can check it out which one is most suitable to your requirements and easy to install on your server:
