Don't laugh, but I deleted root on mysql. Apparently, I don't know the difference between deleting a "user" and a "host". Anyway, I need to reinstall mysql. I'm running Ubuntu (6.06.1 LTS) and MySQL Client Version 5.0.19 (whatever that means). I would like to completely get rid of that mysql install, and then reinstall the same version. I don't know how. I know the command line will look something like sudo apt-get remove xyz. I just don't know what to replace xyz with. I had the tutorial that showed my how in my bookmarks but forgot to back it up when I had to reinstall Ubuntu for the 3rd time (I can install ubuntu blindfolded now)...

Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about who its friends are Wink

Here's the fix:

My friend's advice wrote: Turn off the computer, then turn it back and quickly stick in a Windows XP Home Edition Disk. Then, enter the bios and boot to the CD-ROM. The rest is self explanatory.

Too bad it won't work for me because I don't have another XP license. I ended up installing ubuntu again. Let's see how long I can keep this install going Sticking out tongue . So far my record is 7 days.
