You have to pay to be in the Yahoo directory...
Google doesn't want you to pay for links...
Yet look at inward links of sites listed on directory clearly helps their listing helps rankings...
A reasonable argument is that Yahoo can/should be trusted to thoroughly check a website for it's substance. But then, money is still Yahoos biggest driver for having a directory.
For me, being a competitor, it makes sense the Yahoo directory is penalised. I wonder why it hasn't already been so?

Yes, I agree. Google would say that it's okay to charge for the cost of evaluating the website, but there is no way it costs yahoo $300 to look at a site.

Yes Yahoo takes money for submit your website in directory. But in google are more important to the yahoo still.
