I have just released my new website ged-ged.com and have optimised it for the keyword ged school in my home page.
In the google search results I see that many other website's inner pages are ranking in the first page whereas my site which has been optimized for this keyword is not ranking at all.
Please give your suggestions and I am feeling very sad about it.
I also admit that my site is just quite a new one.

There is alot more to web placing then whether or not your site is optimized to a site. You must also consider incoming links and the like, plus the text within those links. Momentum is a word that is often branded about for this. My site (see sig) started off not even being in the top ten for AmericaInc, and now it has two pages on there, due to incoming links placed on other people's sites.

Over time your site will build up its incoming links are become top in such keywords.

How long has your site been up? Are your pages showing up in Google at all? It always takes awhile for the search engines to full spider a site. Google also has something called sandboxing, where they hold site sin a test area for awhile to make sure you're not a spammer.

Yahoo shows some links back to your page but google's link command shows nothing. I do see about 2 pages of pages coming up in Google, so it doesn't look like you're sandboxed (although I dont' know too much about how to tell if you're sandboxed or not).

Generally speaking though, it takes time to get good rankings. You can't expect to launch a new site and be on the first page right away. Continue to work on optimizing your site and getting linkbacks and you'll get there eventually.

A question: I have heard one or two rumors around that I don't know if they are true or not:

1) Does outgoing links help to boost your rankings

2)Does the content of the site linking to you make a difference.

Thank you

You will need a lot more links with good anchor text. Try free directory submissions to start with. That will help.

Your done with your onpage (keywords, meta, etc.), now focus on building quality and targeted backlinks using your keywords as anchor texts - this will help your rankings (SERP) and will draw targeted traffic for the long run. Just be patient and consistent with it Wink

Exactly what everybody is already telling you really, if you have covered all on-page optimization then move on to off page and just work on building your inbound links by directory submissions, article submissions, link exchanges and any other way you can find of getting links pointing to your site.

Be aware though that certain methods of getting links can actually do you more harm than good and you should also be very careful just how quick you go about building links for a new website also.
