Link farms are pages that consist solely of links to other pages but fail to offer any kind of useful content themselves. Site owners typically place their links on farms to artificially boost linking popularity and thus rankings on sites like Google. Some link farms are automatically generated, while site owners manage others as a repository of reciprocal links.

A link farm is a system where all the members are linked to each other via a common set of link pages. The result is that all members have a links page with the other members' web addresses on them. Many of these link programs have several hundred or even thousands of members, so by joining you have almost instant access to hundreds of other web sites that point links to your site. This can lead to your site looking very "popular".
Search Engines will penalize if you use link farms!

Link farms are also link pages that holds links from other site that do not relate with other. Somehow like seeing a links of casino, together with web development links, with eduction, with real estate and so on. These are link pages that holds link not related to the site and also that are into different categories which you will think will not make sense at all.

A link farm is a web page that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites. They are designed for the main purpose of manipulating search results, which it does not have a benefit for the user or even thee site owner.

Here's a good video from SEOmoz:

In his explaination, link farms are collections of sites that all link back to each other. So in order to gain backlinks for your main site, you create a bunch of smaller sites that all link back to it. As explained in the video, search engines can detect this and devalue those links. It's also a lot of work to set up, for marginal benefits.

On the World Wide Web, a link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine.

Hi,
Real estate rate predictions have been quite accurate in the last few weeks as I have correctly picked the bounce off of 4.78% and then two weeks later the reversal back to 4.82%. I think we have seen an intermediate top in rates a few weeks ago when the Freddie Mac weekly survey reported that rates were at 4.86%. I am sure many analysts and chart technicians feel that 5% will serve as a ceiling; I just do not see that happening.

Link Farming is a blatant attempt to boost a site's link popularity and search engines don't like that method. Using link farms may lead to site penalization or a complete ban from the search engines.

Many site owners and webmasters do link farming to manipulate search engines. But once get caught by Google there is a big chance of getting banned. Basically it's a very cheap type of SEO practice.
