I was wondering about press release sites. I know that duplicate content on your own site is a BAD idea... but I wonder if submitting duplicate press releases can also cause you to take a hit to your rank. Thoughts?

I do not think that press releases can harm your site they will be seen only as low quality backlinks but i do not think their are considered duplicate content at least no if you posted first on your site.

I agree. It seems logical that it would affect only those sites on which the duplicate press release is published.

You can face duplicate content issues only if the the content appears within your site. Other than that, there's nothing to worry about.

i do not think that the main purpose of a press release is to give you quality backlinks as many of them are nofollow. but they give you great exposure and a temporary hike in traffic.
