So how would misspellings help your SEO?

It's not necessarily going to help a current SEO campaign but rather it gives you some keywords from the start of a campaign that you might use particularly if you're going after a competitive keyword and you're not going to be able to optimize for it that keyword but you want some way of getting at the share traffic from that keyword/topic.

So how would misspellings help your SEO?

1. Less competition: most SEO people target correctly spelt keywords. 2. People often spell things incorrectly when searching.

I also wonder how to use the misspellings?

Make page(s) containing the misspelled keywords that redirect to the real page?

You don't want to put misspelled keywords on the page people actually view, and adding the misspelled keywords to your meta tag probably doesn't do much if they are not also in the content...

Misa,

People are only ... human

Some will undoubtedly search for misspelled words, either by accident or because they can't spell.

I typically re-edit my posts here two or three times because of typos-

So if you also target these "wrong" keywords it could give you a leg up on your competition.

Reminds me of techniques used on phone numbers a few years back, "thick thumb dialing" or something like that to make people think they are using a service but it's really a different company... at higher rates...

Remember way back when the Alta Vista search engine didn't register the "altavista.com" domain in time, so they were "altavistadigital.com" and if you typed in "altavista.com" you actually went to a competitor's site?

I get your point.. But still I will not target misspelled keywords, searches for that is very minimal, I will not waste my time for such few possible traffic..

Until everybody else figures it out. Sticking out tongue It actually makes sense and it's worth running the results through something like your Google Adwords campaign to see how much those keywords are, and how often they are used.

It's too bad G doesn't look at meta keywords because that would be a useful place to put misspelled words. It could be a legitimate reason, such as having a company name that is frequently misspelled.

On the other hand, G itself does a good job of suggesting alternate spellings to the user.

Their spelling corrections is one of my favorite features. It has gotten to the point where is I see I misspelled something, I will just submit it anyway, and click on Google's "did you mean..." link because Google knows what I want Smiling.

I think this optimizing for misspellings of miskeyed words is mostly irrelevant now that Google has the "did you mean" link as mentioned. Perhaps it's important for a word like Caribbean (does it have two b's or 2 r's or what?) that screws many people up. As far as miskeys, I think the effort put into optimizing for those is not worth it.

Misspelling in Content or keyword is effecting in content quality and sometime getting bad impression from Google. In my site I use one keyword with one letter wrong .. I was surprised the key word is little competitive and me get some click from G and m in the first position... I was very happy then at last i checked carefully and then understand the mistake.I correct bcz only little clicks even m in the first position of SERP

After that I copy the content in the word document found many wrong spelling and gramitical mistake. I corrected all and resubmit but no use was in last position of SERP..at last I drop the domain and go for new

If you are trying to optimize for a competitive keyword, putting misspelled keywords in a metatag will not help your serps, you have to do so much more than that. For non-competitive keywords, I think, you will get much more traffic if you put your efforts for correctly spelled keywords.

I think it could be a useful tool for misspelled AdWords keywords and misspelled domains for redirection.

This seems like one of the most useless tools available. Do you really want to ad misspelled words to your content?

You would if people searched for them.

Check out "fat-finger dialing"

certain telecom companies purchase phone numbers similar to existing calling-card services and charge 1000's % more

humans will make mistakes - part of your SEO/SERP campaign could be to use the errors to your advantage

perhaps you mean "synonymizer" Confused

the algorithm generates variations that may be misspellings by hitting the adjacent key (fat-finger typing) and perhaps also common misspellings for certain words (like synonym => sinanim Laughing out loud )

but they missed your twist:

synonym:

synnoym
eynonym
aynonym
dynonym
wynonym
stnonym
sunonym
shnonym
symonym
syhonym
sybonym
syninym
synlnym
synpnym
synomym

In the current PC World mag there is a very basic article on SEO that includes the advice Spell Correctly--or Have a Good Reason Not To which briefly discusses the possible advantage of including common misspellings in keywords.

You had a point decibel, misspelled keywords have lesser competitors, and we can take advantage of it because of minimal works to be done on a certain misspelled keywords, we all make mistakes like what Brutal wrote, instead of synonymizer he went to sinanimaiser, and this makes a lot of sense.. thanks for sharing.
