hi,
I am new to SEO. Could anyone suggest how to start with learning SEO ? Should i purchase an ebook (such as seobook by Aarons Wall), or should i follow the instructions provided in online tutorials and forums ? Which of those will work ? I need help immediately regarding this.
Regards,
jessica

Try SEO moz's beginner's guide here:

Reading in forums is helpful, but just be careful who you listen to because there is a lot of mis-information floating around. Also, on anything you read, check the date. SEO changes all the time and there is still a lot of outdated information out there. Make sure what you're reading was written in the past year or so (2005/2006).
I find that the best way to learn is to subscribe to some of the top blogs. I like SEOMoz, which I linked above. They will get into the finer points, but also refute common myths and things like that.
I don't have Aaron Wall's book (yet) but I imagine that would be a great start as well.

On a basic level, SEO is really easy - make a site with something good, make sure the text clearly describes what it is with the right words, and get links to it. So if you do all of that you can do fairly well. All the finer points are much more difficult though, with lots of little idiosyncrosies and methods of getting links and things like that.

Aaron Wall's book has all the authoritative information about SEO in one place. There are some pretty good tips throughout the entire text and at the end of each chapter all the references and tools he used to write it are listed (really, really useful). There isn't much original content in it though, so you could get all the information for free by reading through trusted SEO blogs/tuts/forums etc. But that would take a ton of time; it's a lot easier and less time consuming to read it from one source. Just get the book, it's definitely worth the $80. It is several hundred pages long, so if you don't like reading online, print it out, it doesn't cost that much.

Boith Rand Fishkin (SEOMOZ) and Aaron Wall know their stuff. I would heartily recommend their advice.
