Why, are you trying to sell advertising or something? Otherwise it doesn't do much for you.

Submitting your sites to search engines has no impact on PR. It's mai. nly a meausre of linkbacks to your site. Higher quality, one-way links will have a big impact on your PR. Lots of poor quality links, such as forum signatures or web directories, will have less of an impact.

These factors are also considered in search rankings.

Really? I thought that having a high PR would also help you with the search engine rankings? Is it only for "credibility" in the online world?

Sort of, but not really. It is one of the factors that goes into the ranking algorithm. Googe has hundreds of factors that determine ranking. It is sort of a rough indicator because it does measure some of the same factors that Google uses in its algorithm. The thing to focus on is actual rankings, not the PR number.

There are lots of cases of sites with lower PR ranking better than sites with higher PR. Last fall we dropped from a 5 to a 4 but our search traffic is going up.

It can be useful for diagnostics sometimes, as I found with this problem.

Here's a recent article on the (un)usefulness of PageRank:

I see, thanks for sharing that. I'll have to read it more thoroughly when I get home and can print it out.

But yeah, it's a good idea for me to not worry about pagerank, and focus my attention on increasing direct traffic. That's always the end goal, anyway.

If you've got a pr3, then you probably already know to get links from directories, blogs, forums, articles, social bookmarking sites, to get links from relevant official organisations (VERY GOOD - eg a tourist site of ours got a pr 1 with just 1 link from the local tourist office and 2 non-relevant small links) and to send emails asking other relevant sites for a link exchange. Have you also tried wikibiz, dmoz? People also say to find .gov and .edu blogs with a comment section.

Hope this helps - I must put some more effort into link building myself. We've just been downgraded from pr2 to pr1.

Your page rank has no relationship with the actual rankings of your website.

Therefore is there any use of increasing Page Rank ?

You should better concentrate on Trust Rank which will help you increase your websites ranking on search engines.

I have to say that it is a bit confusing that PageRank and page rank are two separate and possibly unrelated concepts.

It's good to be able to separate them though, and now when I read more about either topic online, I'll be careful to make sure the author and/or I am not confusing the two.

For PR only, you should increase your backlinks.

only backlinks can give you PR juice.

Submitting your site or blog to search engines has no impact in your page rank. PR is all about how many quality backlinks your site has. If you wanna know how page rank works you can visit Google Page Ranking. Hope this will help you out.

Generally, you need to build more dofollow backlinks to your site. But what really raises PR is by getting orgainic backlinks. A site usually gets this through good, useful and unique content worth linking to Wink

More relevent links is the only solution.

Page rank is in fact just a measure of links to your site.
But it is possible to have a high page rank but not have any rankings, if the sites you recieved links (or the anchor text within these links) from are not relevent to the search terms you are trying to achieve.

From everything I have read worrying about PageRank is like worrying about what kind of paper your business cards are printed on. Now that said, it's hard for me to believe it doesn't matter at all... so I'd love to see some "proof" one way or the other. In the meantime, I ignore it. Smiling
