In order to get linkbacks you need to have something people want to link to. Good content is always a great option. You have lots of content on this site but it's not very well written. There are long, dense, intimidating paragraphs (who wants to read all that?) that seems to be written more for search engines than for people. The bolded keywords are a red flag. Start learning how to write for the web and write articles that people will link to. I suggest copyblogger and SEOmoz for good information about writing "linkbait". Pay particular attention to SEOmoz's articles on the 'linkerati'.

Also make sure you format your text to make it easier for people to read. No one is going to link to you if they can't read your site easily. Put bigger margins on the content area and increase the font size and line-height a little bit. Break things up into smaller paragraphs, and lists with headings where appropriate.

Just type in Google : "your kewyords" + '"add link" and you'll find sites relevant to yours ,willing to exchange links.

You can start a directory submission campaign. Write some articles and submit it them to the article sites.

Both will get you some thousand of links to your site.

Go to any link submission directory, check out your category and then check out the websites enlisted there.Prior to that submit yor own website in that directory.Always exchange links with website that has a pr equivalent to yours or greater then yours.Add the links of those website to yur link page and send them a request to approve.

Submitting the same article isn't the best solution.

Then you can find some bulk directory submission services.

You can build backlinks from your links in forum signatures, directory submissions, links from articles, links from newsletters, links from press releases, links from other sites and other link building strategies

I agree with having signature link backs to your site as very effective. Very nice suggestions Zagu! Smiling

Is there a way of checking what existing links you have for an address?

At Google you can check in your webmaster tools area or you can do a link: search (link:http://www.yourdomain.com). Google admits that this command is incomplete - it will only list a selection of links, not all of them. Yahoo's linkdomain: command shows a more complete list and I think they order them by value. So your most valued links will be at the top of the list.. I have noticed this command has changed at some point over the past few months but I'm not sure exactly what they're doing differently. Remember that nofollow'ed links are included.

One of the ways you can use the public link: commands is to check your competitors' links. Look up their sites and you can get ideas for where you can get links for your site.

You may want to read this article about Real Estate sites getting penalized for reciprocal linking, and Matt Cutts' feedback about links pages. Basically - be careful with long links pages that are just there for search engines and not people. Google is penalizing sites on certain topics for doing this. At the end of Matt's post he says:

Quote: As Google changes algorithms over time, excessive reciprocal links will probably carry less weight. That could also account for a site having more pages in supplemental results if excessive reciprocal links (or other link-building techniques) begin to be counted less. As I said in January: “The approach I’d recommend in that case is to use solid white-hat SEO to get high-quality links (e.g. editorially given by other sites on the basis of merit).”

Checked his system (not all of it) and think that it might work. What do you think about it?Confused

That's an interesting idea. The basic idea is to link to pages that link to you by embedding RSS feeds in various locations. Could work if you can be bothered to do that and if you have a decent number of reasonable quality incoming links.

I generally really like the idea of sharing the link love and linking out (but not the way he's suggesting). This is a good way to get others in the field to notice you. Becuase, of course, the best kind of backlinks are topical links from good quality sites. You link to them, maybe they'll notice you and eventually link back. I've found this to be effective. If you have a blog, check if any blogs you read don't have nofollows on their trackbacks. Write about what they wrote about and leave a trackback. Say something interesting and they might read and comment.

I have had some success in getting very well known people to read my blog just by linking to them. One of them even linked back Smiling There might be more potential in sending trackbacks to less well known bloggers (read: less busy, more interested in others who are writing about them). If someone sends me a trackback I definitely read it, have good feelings to the person who bothered to write about my post, and even think about how I can link to them in the future.

As I understood this system can not be reduced to a simple trackback functionality and the best part of it is fully automated.

Yes, I was talking about something different there - went off on a tangent.

This other idea is automated and continually updated ... sounds like something that could work assuming that the search engines don't identify those as feed links and treat them the same as regular one-way links. Or they don't identify them as duplicate content or anything like that...

The other main idea there is that you're finding ways to linking to pages that link to you in order to boost their ranking which will then boost your ranking. Makes sense if you can do it without spamming.

Some forums, like this one, require a certain post length for the sig to show. But most forums have an option to put your homepage in your profile info, making each post, no matter the length a backlink. Good for "introductary" posts and short comments.
