I was wondering how you can tell if your site has been banned from Google. I made several changes to my site when I first put it out there and resubmitted my site to the 3 or 4 times in a two week period. I've heard that this can really hurt your ranking with G. If you do get spanked, how long does it take to get out of the corner for bieng a naughty boy?

Thanks,

I'm afraid I have a similar problem. I also submitted my site couple of times "just to be sure" and now I have wated about 4 weeks. I really hope they are not making an issue of it. At least they should clearly tell "do not submit your site several times!!!".

You have to realize that Google get millions of sbumissions every day. Unless you really hammer on their system I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm sure they know that people with less experience are going to submit more than they need to and it should not be a problem.

But if you site is not listed in a couple of weeks, I would read the webmaster guidelines and see if there is anything about your site that Google may not like. Then in about 4-5 weeks if you are not listed, I would get some help and maybe post a message here to get some feedback about your site.

Now, one thing that makes a big difference is how you are looking for your site. If you are trying all your keywords and not finding your site, that does not mean you are not listed. Try using just your domain name, as in "domain" if your site is "domain.com". If you are in the index, then that should bring up a listing for your site.

Also, you should get familiar with Google's restrictions -- they don't count multiple submissions as spam. They count *auto* submissions as spam.

I have a similar problem and thought my site wasnt listed on google because I had submitted a few times. I did it a couple of times mysef and used 2 different web sites that auto submit to google a few weeks later, would that have had an effect?

I am completely non-existent from google, even when I do a domain search. I am getting worried about it now because I used MSN Seach and I'm top when I do a search for "yateley forums". On google I'm nowhere.

I started my site on the 16th of May, when do you think google will let me back into the fold Roll eyes

You need links to your site to get indexed. Submitting does nothing.

Sometime between December 05 and May 06 depending on how competitive your market place is.

Ok then why am I top of the MSN search without ever submitting or making any more links? Surely the technology they use cant be that different?

Usually chrishirst would say its an aging delay... which seems to be true...
Now linking is good... for an example I was a victim of google before, one of my sites (not listed here) appeared top on google rankings in about 3 weeks, then disappeared. All thats left at first was my complete url, then its gone too. Then I got a PR of 3 from that experience i still didnt get listed in a month... I was patient enough evolving the site, optimizing it, do some SEO, link and link and link (no link farms here mind you), until I was having PR of 5 for that same site in just 3 months from the beginning... i got listed again only 4th to my targeted keywords, at least im on the first two pages of the search engine, if i prove the sites worth it will stay there forever(or in my lifetime)...

The technology may be basically the same, but the ranking algorithms are very different. Both the MSN and Yahoo algos appear to be based on the Inktomi engine with a lot of updates and modifications, So more weight is given to on page optimising.
So with good content and a few links you can rank high on MSN. A similar case is Yahoo though a few more external links are needed to get crawled.
Google is different in the weight it gives to anchor text, both internal and external. So you need decent quality, on topic backlinks with the right anchor text to get decent Google rankings.

MSN is very easy to get to the top of, google bases its index on the amount of sites that link to yours...it's very hard to get a good ranking.

Also, you might be in the sandbox, which usually takes about 6 months to get out of. Check if your sites banned by doing link: domain.com

If you search for your domain and your site isn't there, this does not mean you're banned, just not indexed. You can easily get backlinks by posting in forums with your url in the signature. Google will eventually crawl your site.

Also, the google sandbox has nothing to do with site banning. The sandbox is for NEW sites that are placed at the bottom of the search results until they...well, mature. Like a fine wine. Every new site is sandboxed by G.
