Philip, if you really want to improve your PR - build quality links with high PR sites relevant to your niche and submit your sites to high PR directories. Building PR does add value to your site especially if you are selling ad spaces or text links.

I think the way you've 'written' SEO friendly copy is actually at the deficit of the user experience. Some it just reads awfully, making no sense.

You are indeed in a very competitive market with some rivals having many years head start on you.

Well honestly, I don't look at the PR or doing SEO just to have a high page rank. I preferred to rank high on SERP and to get more traffic. But if that's what you want just keep on building links and do all submissions that the commentators above had suggested.

It depends upon your page's inbound and outbound links. If you have lot of outbound links, it will helps you to get good page rank.

I've been searching for lots of high page rank directories and registering my company on those.

directory submissions takes time before you can actually see the results, because directories with high pagerank does not automatically approve those links submitted to them, sometimes it took six month before they approved it, sometimes links are being rejected if submitted into the wrong category or if your site doesn't meet their standards..

If your website have 30-40 Quality backlink then your website pr is near about 2, all strategy is depend upon Backlinks you have to collect some high pr backlink & some theme base backlinks. This time I have got one new website {{link removed}}for SEO this website have 1200 daily visitors & 3300 yahoo inbound link but have only 2 pr Website owner wants 6 pr. I am working working for Pr & collecting lots of quality backlinks.

I think page ranking and PR are different concept. For page ranking, it usually mean SERP.
Well for any purposes, backlinks are important. And using your keywords in anchor text of backlinks would make your sites rank higher while the quality of backlinks might determine your PR.

I don't think you should worry so much about increasing your sites PR it's not a big factor in your rankings. Yes popular sites have high PR but thats not really important. There' are plenty of websites who rank high in google that have no PR at all. If PR played a roll in where you rank no many websites would be in google. Viral marketing and link bait is always good for back links to your site but with all the videos on the web you have to really be creative. I liked gatorades viral ad of the ball girl in outfield making an amazing catch.

Of course , PR is not so important unless you want to sale banners ! SERPS should be much more important to you. Being on top rankings with your keywords would provide you high traffic !

I'm not sure I'm going to dismiss the importance of pagerank all that easy. It is important... very important, but with that said, I agree that way too much emphasis is placed here. If you spend all your time worry about PR, you are probably missing out. Here's a few tips that I live by (until someone persuades me otherwise):

Laying a foundation for a good PR...
1) Make your site easy to navigate and stay away javascript menus
2) Know your keywords. Keep in mind, you'll be lucky if you target two Don't get greedy or you'll dilute SEO efforts.
3) Use your targeted keywords in your anchor text for links both in your site, and for links point to your site.

When your PR sucks...
1) If you are selling a product, consider Google Base. It's free and can provide visability on the first page of Googles Search Results, even if you have an obscure PR.
2) Article Submissions - While not really SEO related, Free article submission sites often have high PR's. If you can write a targeted article, it's possible your article will rank above links to your competitions site.
3) Videos - Youtube, DailyMotion, Metacafe are just a few. Another great way to leap frog over your competition.
4) Alt-Tags - Yes, Alt-tags. This game is about picking up the pennies. So don't forget about those images you see in Google Images.

Misc
1) Press Releases - this is tricky. Yes press releases do provide value, however the services that will give you the most coverage often obsfucate the urls. Basically, you might not get SEO benefit to your site. Research your options here. I tend to rely on releases for coverage rather than for SEO purposes.
2) Directory Submissions - The value here is questionable in my opinion. I know others would disagree. Perhaps Yahoo Directory, or a handful of others including the DMOZ, but beyond that, it's not on my radar.
3) Go to YouTube and watch Matt Cutts videos. Keep up to date regarding what's going on behind the scenes at Google as it relates to their algorithms, sandboxes, etc.
