well those keywords are far too competitive, no wonder your site is not showing up. go for keywords like - graphic design austrailia, good graphic designer, low cost print design etc...

Those would better. Remember - you are not just competing for optimization with other Aussie web designers etc. You are also competing with the whole world. So you have to be very specific.

If I am searching for a web designer - then I can't just put in "web designer" or I get 1000's of results. So as a searcher I have to be specific. So...you have to also!

Yeah yesterday i had another go at it. and changed it to "graphic design melbourne" as my main key word and i did a quick search and i'm up against 2,000,000. I'm kinda running out of ideas as i can not see the result as to what postion i'm at.

having look at your site..the back link count isnt very high...so no wonder you not ranking on your keywords...what i would recommend is exchanging links with out sites with your keyword in the anchor text

How long has your site been around for? It can take months & months to get your site established with Google and I am still of the opinion that you need to get links pointing to your site.

I've checked around the internet for your site and it looks like your site is currently in the google sandbox... This normally happens for new sites or site that are developing, an annoying feature of google.
The plus side is, your site is ranking well with your keywords in other search engines. On MSN I found you on the first page.
My site is also in the sandbox so I have been paying less attention to google until they let us out. From what I have read it normally take around 9 months though nothing is for sure with google.
The bottom line is get more links to your site but dont give in to sites claiming they can give you hundreds of free links. The SE are wise to that. Just steadily submit your site to directories and perhaps find reciprocal link partners from sites with similar content to your own. Patience and determination are the keys.
