I recently submitted a site to google.com and notice that for a particular two word search it is ranked number 1. When I do the same search in Google.co.uk, it does not appear even in the top 30. Do I need to submit separately to Google.co.uk?

Thanks,
T.

I think google automatically establishes relevance to the UK market based on your domain name (.co.uk, .org.uk etc) and/or by tracing your hosts IP address. If you are hosting with a company who's machines are located outside of the UK you may have trouble getting listed in google UK.

From my experience and the things that I heard from others (some very good specialists) I know the same thing: if you are hosting with a company who's machines are located outside of the UK you may have trouble getting listed in google UK.

If I will find out something else I will be back.

If yu are hosted outside the UK but you have a .co.uk domain it will not affect your ranking.

If your are hosted outside the uk and you do not have a .co.uk domain and you are not hosted in the 69.148.xx.xx IP block you will have a problem with google.co.uk

Are you 100% sure about this? Did you test this? I am just curious.

Interesting stuff! I am hosted on pipex (free web space with my broadband connection) and I have a web address with Names.co.uk. The web address is .net so perhaps there isn't enough indication that it is essentially a UK site.

Thanks for all your comments.

Yes because I host several sites with .co.uk domain in servers in the US and their ranking is unaffected.

I would be amazed if Pipex hosted outside the UK so having a .net domain shouldn't affect your ranking as the IP address would be enough to indicate a UK location.

The thing to remember is that GEO-IP targetting is not an exact science. The SEs will always give slightly more weight to country specific TLDs

Theres half your problem... your redirecting your domain name to another URL. I reccomend going with a proper hosting account. I host my own websites with Names.co.uk and I've always found them to be reliable. Smiling

Right, I use and work Smiling for velnet.com that is a uk based company, so I am very happy with our hosting plans.

Andy, you are indeed correct in that it is not a wise thing to redirect my domain name to another URL. I would admit that the website in question is just a bit of a hobby so I am limiting my budget . I am just really using it to train myself a bit more in this whole area.
Thanks to everyone for your input and to ovidu for the 'plug'.
