Google CEO admits - "We have a huge machine crisis - those machines are full". New York Times article Microsoft and Google Set to Wage Arms Race - paragraph on page 2 that quotes Eric Schmidt (Google CEO) admitting that they have problems with being able to store more web site information because their "machines are full"
They are having to spend at least 1.5 Billion Dollars to expand their storage capacity!
At least now we know why massive numbers of pages have disappeared from the SERPS/DCs!
One big question remains - how long will it be before they are back to crawling/indexing properly again??!!

This is interesting news! So this is why Google has been returning some weird results.
I would also question why this has happened, the number of pages the bot has to index can't have increased that much. Surely just looking at Internet growth trends they should have been able to predict how much storage they'd need?
The technology they use is open source and free, information about Google itself certainly isn't! Maybe improvements to their algorithm meant they were suddenly able to index more pages (dynamic content for instance)?

I read that MSN is set to spend 2 Billion on their Search engine. Google says that's not fair.

Hmm..... Although i don't like google much, but i hope at least got some giants to balance the power from Mircosoft...... as the article say : "For its part, Google wants to avoid becoming the "next Netscape," a reference to the early leader in the browser market that Microsoft eventually thwarted"

that does make sense, some of my sites are doing really well on google while others of equal value don't show up.
Hopeully they'll get the problem sorted out, they are the web's number 1.
