I am looking for a good one time search engine submission site and was wondering if anyone has had a good experience with one. Please post the ones you have tried out and what you got out of it. Thanks.

As Busy said, those free multi-submission services tend to spam you to death. A good rule of thumb is to always submit them by hand - it takes effort, but is worth it, especially if you are a serious SEO. If you get listed in the majors, you will be fine, and will eventually be listed in all the ones that will help you. You should be listed in: Yahoo!, Google, DMOZ.org, Altavista, Lycos, AlltheWeb.com

Paid ones are fine. I am just trying to find a really good one out there.

I've always liked selfpromotion.com. They ask for a donation and are well worth it, IMO. The interface is not for everyone though.

My other favorite is jimtools.com, but the directory submit has been down for a while now. Also, a certain of their entries are out of date a therefore fail.

Thanks,
Christian

Christian,
Wow, Thanks for the links. EXTREMELY USEFUL. I really like self promotion. Already made a donation.

Glad I could help! I really like Self Promotion too. I re-donated a few months ago. I should get back there and get more familier with everything he has to offer.

For those of you that don't know, SelfPromotion.com is a "free, but please donate some money" site that is not unlike Submitit.com by bCentral, which is a resonable pay system. The way they work is you set up a site and fill in all the information. Then you submit to search engines and directories in groups. You have good control over what you submit to for the most part. The sites either fill in the submission forms for automaticly, or does part of the work, and then you confirm and finish it. For completely manual submissions, they give you instructions to help guide you through the process.

I use Submit-it at work, but I think it's gone downhill somewhat. Still, it doesn't cost too much and it works ok.

If your site is listed on dmoz.org (free listing) it will also appear on google, aol...

I'd just like to add one comment...

If you have a technology that lets you do things with less work, why not use it?

Auto-submission via web services or a program that runs on your computer is NOT the best way to submit all sites. But the truth is that most systems will accept automated submissions.

So why not get your site listed on as many systems as possible and save your time and energy submitting to the important ones, or the manual-only by hand?

I do think that if your serious about your submissions, you will verify that the auto-submissions did in fact work. Also, FFAs are a total waste in my experience and should never be bothered with.

Thanks,
Christian
