I have the web site in place. It's got good SEO. Keywords on the pages, links are optimized, everything is ready.

How do I go about getting a search engine to recognize it (google) and how do I get a higher search engine positioning with it?

Get some links from good sites. The SE's are going to crawl around the web from link to link. They have to be able to find links to your site. This is sort of where PR comes in - it's a measure of how many sites are linking to yours and the quality of those links.

It is really a great question. You will get lot of different answers on this, which are great. But you will need to look at it in a step by step manner. Are you ready to go with it?

The more back links you get the better your search engine ranking will be. As simple as that.

Keywords, Descriptions, Title etc. on pages is something useful and should be done but the more backlinks you have the better chance you site has.

Directories are useful, link exchanges and any other way of getting links to your website on others. The more relevant to your content the better Smiling

This is a little bit misleading I think. A lot of webmasters have been led to believe that any link is a good link. That quantity of links matters. It doesn't - it's the quality that counts.

To get your site crawled in the first place "quantity not quality" links might be a good strategy. You just want google to know you exist. However, after that it's really best to focus on quality. That means sites with a good PR, and preferably one-way links.

As I've said many times, Google wants to find content that is good for humans. So firstly, your site needs to be good for humans (duh!). Then you want other sites to link to yours to show google that they think your site is good for people. The higher the quality of the other site, the more weight their vote carries. One way links are also better than two way links - google is on to all those wembasters who traded links trying to cheat their algorythm.

You might want to read the Google Webmaster Guidelines. Lots of basic instructions there, and right from the source!

The quality and relevancy of the links is very important as I mentioned at the end of my last post. If you can get these type of links then thats great but most backlinks will have a positive affect.

We are getting crawled by Google several times a day, have or had a number 2 rating and we only have 6 incoming links and hardly any visitors! 40 per day. From the SEO point of view all we did was go through the Google submission process, made sure the robot.txt file was correct and sat back. 48 hours later we had a visit from el robot.

I suspect the reason we are crawled so much is because we update the site every single day.

I guess sometime in the future our visitor numbers will rise?

This is true, quality is always better. However, I have managed to obtain very good rankings in the major se's and submitting to lots of free directories were a big part of my link building. So, I think they did help me out quite a bit even though technically most of them were not what you would consider quality links.

I think I have read about the optimization thing so many times, Is very good that in a way or other ppl talk about this but lets be honest if you have a search on the google or other search engine about optimization you will find millions of articles and forums discussion. But any way in the end is good to learn from other too.
